Break My Heart 1,000 Times
SYNOPSIS
Living in the aftermath of the Event means that seeing the dead is now a part of life, but Veronica wishes that the ghosts would just move on. Instead, the ghosts aren’t disappearing—they’re gaining power.

When Veronica and her friend, Kirk, decide to investigate why, they stumble upon a more sinister plot than they ever could have imagined. One of Veronica’s high school teachers is crippled by the fact that his dead daughter has never returned as a ghost, and he’s haunted by the possibility that she’s waiting to reappear within a fresh body. Veronica seems like the perfect host. And even if he’s wrong, what’s the harm in creating one more ghost?

From critically acclaimed Generation Dead author Daniel Waters, comes a delectably creepy and suspenseful thriller. Break My Heart 1,000 Times will leave readers with the chills. Or is that a ghost reading over the page?

But there is another voice: Ever’s singing voice, which is beautiful but has been silenced by Skinny. Partly in the hopes of trying out for the school musical—and partly to try and save her own life—Ever decides to undergo a risky surgery that may help her lose weight and start over.

With the support of her best friend, Ever begins the uphill battle toward change. But demons, she finds, are not so easy to shake, not even as she sheds pounds. Because Skinny is still around. And Ever will have to confront that voice before she can truly find her own.

my thoughts  Okay, so both of these sound crazy don't they?! What an imagination these authors have. That book cover of Magisterium is creepy as heck!

BOOK EXCERPT

Liberty andGregory – First Kiss

When the twelfth boxwas packed, she followed him up the steps and closed the doors behind her. Thenight was so quiet she listened to the sound of the oak leaves on the moonlitloading dock while he hefted the last box into the back of the van. He turnedto her, looked down at her happy face, and brushed tousled strands ofhoney-colored hair from her eyes.

“Thank you,” Libertywhispered and hesitantly raised her arms and touched his back. Her hands slidover stiff jumpsuit fabric, feeling the strong shape of him. He still smelledof that woodsy cologne. Buoyed after their successful adventure, with gentlepressure she pulled him closer and he responded by pressing her into a warmhug. She leaned against him, enjoying the closeness. He used his fingers toraise her chin and she watched his lips come down to meet hers. She couldn’tpush him away. Or talk. Or close her eyes.

The kiss, soft, powerful, and protective, was unlike any she’d ever experienced. She feltexcited and so close to him.

His lips movedhungrily, then pulled back. “Oh Liberty, This evening has taken more than youcan imagine. I cannot stay much longer.”

“What are yousaying? We need to take the books back to the library.” She placed her hands onthe sides of his head and again kissed him deeply.

They jumped apart atthe sound of footfalls. Gregory looked over her shoulder and saw three wolvesemerge from the bushes edging the parking lot. He pushed Liberty away from himand gruffly yelled, “Get in the van and drive. Now!”

“Come with me!”

“No. Go! Don’targue.” He slammed the back door closed.

As she ran to theopen driver’s door and pulled herself in, she heard wind whipping leaves into afrenzy followed by rapid crunching like a meat grinder devouring bone andgristle. She shuddered and turned the key in the ignition. The old van coughed. On the third try it sputtered to life.

She pushed hard onthe gas pedal and on the third try the van heaved forward with its book-heavyload. She looked into the rearview mirror. Three dark dog-shaped beasts withshining eyes and drooling jaws flanked the back of the parking lot.

Again Gregoryyelled, “Go home!”

Wolves. It had to bethe werewolves. She’d left Gregory to the werewolves.

As she drove fromthe parking lot she glanced frantically into the rearview mirror one more time. She saw the back end of a large hairy grey and white dog facing the threesnarling fiends.

Pure (Pure #1)
by Julianna Baggott
Kindle Edition, 431 pages
Published: February 8, 2012

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

   Pure (Pure, #1)
SYNOPSIS:
We know you are here, our brothers and sisters . . .
Pressia barely remembers the Detonations or much about life during the Before. In her sleeping cabinet behind the rubble of an old barbershop where she lives with her grandfather, she thinks about what is lost-how the world went from amusement parks, movie theaters, birthday parties, fathers and mothers . . . to ash and dust, scars, permanent burns, and fused, damaged bodies. And now, at an age when everyone is required to turn themselves over to the militia to either be trained as a soldier or, if they are too damaged and weak, to be used as live targets, Pressia can no longer pretend to be small. Pressia is on the run.

Burn a Pure and Breathe the Ash . . .
There are those who escaped the apocalypse unmarked. Pures. They are tucked safely inside the Dome that protects their healthy, superior bodies. Yet Partridge, whose father is one of the most influential men in the Dome, feels isolated and lonely. Different. He thinks about loss-maybe just because his family is broken; his father is emotionally distant; his brother killed himself; and his mother never made it inside their shelter. Or maybe it's his claustrophobia: his feeling that this Dome has become a swaddling of intensely rigid order. So when a slipped phrase suggests his mother might still be alive, Partridge risks his life to leave the Dome to find her.

When Pressia meets Partridge, their worlds shatter all over again.

Cross My Heart

Cross My Heart

SYNOPSIS:
True love can blossom in unexpected places. This is Jaden pretending not to notice. . . .

Jaden McEntyre and Parker Whalen are a wrong fit from the start. Jaden is driven and focused, Harvard Med School within reach. Parker has a past-a reputation-and the rumors about his mysterious habits abound. So there's no reason why, when they're assigned to work together on a project in English, they should discover they have anything in common, or even like each other, and they definitely shouldn't be falling in love.

As they bond over Edith Wharton's tragic novella, Ethan Frome, the "bad boy" vibe Parker plays begins to dissipate. Soon, Jaden finds herself shedding her own "good girl" image: sneaking around to be with him, confiding in him, and ultimately falling hard for this leather-wearing, motorcycle-driving loner who plays into the rebel stereotype.

Still, Jaden can't shake the feeling that there's more to Parker than he's letting on. He's hiding something from her, and discovering the truth means reconciling the Parker she's grown to love with the person he really is. Because it's possible that his life inside the classroom-everything Jaden knows-is one, massive lie.

my thoughtsI was in that "mushy love story with some family drama" mood these past few days. So I bought these two novels. They both seems like page-turners.

So what's new on your shelf? I love to add to my TBR pile!

   Veined, # 1                       Pretty Girls Don't Cry

VEINED #1
by Anyta Sunday
Kindle,
Published: August 26, 2011

It could be worse for Sylva Lark. She could be dead. A coma was nothing to that. Or her family moving across country for the treatment, leaving her with a big blue mark on her back.
She can handle it.
Mostly.
Except the mark glows and tingles, especially whenever transition helper Atticus Plot (Attic) is close by. She suspects he’s hiding something, and when she stumbles across a torn body bearing the same spiral marking as her own, that suspicion is confirmed.
After a few shaves with death, the truth finally comes out and the battles begin.
But not all her fights are external; her biggest one is the decision she has to make between doing the right thing for world and giving up her beloved family for good.

PRETTY GIRLS DON'T CRY
by
Kindle, 150 pages
Published: June 30, 2012

Afternoon radio show host Nora Scott has always considered herself an ugly duckling, and the prosthetic foot she wears on her right leg isn't helping.

When she's on the air, as a faceless voice, she's Eugene, Oregon's favorite personality. Off the air, she's ... not so great, hiding her face and failing to connect with a guy for more than one night.

Now she's being pursued by two men, a work friend who wants to be more than friends, and the guy she loved when she was fourteen, before the accident.

Nora must figure out what she really wants, as well as how much she can forgive.

my thoughts  Veined. . . gave me the goose bumps when I read the beginning of the synopsis, but as I kept reading I thought, wow this sounds awesome. The cover is nice in a creepy way.

Big Girls, Don't Cry. . . This one seems more like an adult read, but I guess it could be for the older end of YA. Well I just love, love triangles! So that's what caught my eye. Also a bit of mystery seems to be there too.
I love comments!  So what did you find this week?!

This meme Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by *Breaking the Spine* "Waiting   On Wednesday" is a weekly event, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I'm anticipating the following upcoming book:

Velveteen (Velveteen #1)
by Daniel Marks
Hardcover, 464 pages
Expected publication: October 9, 2012
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers

Velveteen (Velveteen, #1)

Synopsis:
Velveteen Monroe is dead. At 16, she was kidnapped and murdered by a madman named Bonesaw. But that’s not the problem.

The problem is she landed in purgatory. And while it’s not a fiery inferno, it’s certainly no heaven. It’s gray, ashen, and crumbling more and more by the day, and everyone has a job to do. Which doesn’t leave Velveteen much time to do anything about what’s really on her mind.

Bonesaw.

Velveteen aches to deliver the bloody punishment her killer deserves. And she’s figured out just how to do it. She’ll haunt him for the rest of his days.

It’ll be brutal... and awesome.

But crossing the divide between the living and the dead has devastating consequences. Velveteen’s obsessive haunting cracks the foundations of purgatory and jeopardizes her very soul. A risk she’s willing to take—except fate has just given her reason to stick around: an unreasonably hot and completely off-limits coworker.

Velveteen can’t help herself when it comes to breaking rules... or getting revenge. And she just might be angry enough to take everyone down with her.

           MY THOUGHTS:

Sounds kind of dark and creepy, but with a bit of romance in it, it's just up my alley! Don't you like the cover?!  I can't wait . . .

Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it.

Hi, I'm Sherri. . . and just to be clear I'm not [Fikt]shun, but I love her blog.

I love to read fiction, so writing reviews of books for a hobby is just an added pleasure to my list of things to do. I just can't read a good book without sharing what I've read. When I'm not reading, I'm writing.

By the way, if you like reading on the naughty or romantic side, visit my new blog FIK(TISH)UHS Pleasures.
